Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary is dedicated to rescuing and providing lifelong, ethical care for captive-bred big cats. In the aftermath of the 8 January 2026 wildfire, the sanctuary’s priority is to protect the animals’ lives and welfare, ensure the safety of their team, and secure the sanctuary’s future through recovery and rebuilding.

Across Southern Africa rural communities face daily challenges. The African Bush Camps Foundation aims to help with education, food insecurity and conflict with wildlife. Ongoing pressures on livelihoods and landscapes make human–wildlife coexistence more urgent than ever.

Cape Town is one of the most biodiverse cities in the world, and also among the highest for social inequality. Ongoing urban expansion not only threatens this biodiversity through habitat destruction and fragmentation, but has led to many urban communities having little or no access to quality natural spaces that are safe.

Although education is a constitutional right in South Africa the education system struggles to overcome the challenges of historical inequality and overburdened resources. This means that even when children do attend school, they sometimes don’t sit at a desk, or use a flushing-toilet, or write in a book.
